Garden Plan Finished

We have finished our garden plan and our ambitions to cultivate a gigantic garden have not been subdued. We will have a plot about 25 feet wide and 80 feet long. We will grow a wide variety of herbs, veggies, roots, greens and melons. I have had all utilities marked and we can precede with turning the soil soon.

Somerset Corner Secured. YESSSSSSS

My conversation with Tom Durkin today secured the use of Somerset Corner. We will be able to plant a garden on the corner of Stange Rd. and Northridge Parkway. I am extremely excited to begin the process of planting a massive community plot that will help feed the community and bring beauty to the neighborhood. We will meet tomorrow at 11am to sign paperwork defining some legalities. I am extremely excited to begin work on the corner and I must also express my gratitude to Tom Durkin and the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center for their generosity and support for our garden. Prairie Flowers?

Researching a possible solution for the corner, I visited the Seed Saver website and I was intrigued by planting half the corner with prairie flowers. These flowers are typical quite large and would attract birds and butterflies. Planting the corner with prairie plants would be fitting considering that Iowa had great marshy prairies before modern farming and drainage techniques tamed the states natural features.

Somerset Corner

We would love to plant melons, squash and many beautiful flowers on the corner next to the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center and The Cafe.
